We've made it to our 15th issue. I'd like to welcome all the new subscribers. We only have the Dreams and Comments section this issue. There were a few comments that didn't make it in this week. They will be in the next issue. Since nobody else has sent in questions for our questions and answers section in a few weeks, I thought I'd send one out. What is the first dream you remember having. If you are a parent, you may send in your child's earliest dream. Send responses to the newsletter (cbeattie@worf.uwsp.edu), and I'll make sure our questions and answers editor gets them. _____________________________________________________________________ Dreams and Comments ======THE MATERIAL/IMMATERIAL WORLD by Chris========================= Note from Chris: I've been having a lot of lucid dreams lately. I think in the last few weeks I've managed to double the number of lucid dreams I've had in my 23 years of life. I blame it on my new contour pillow. Anyway, I thought I'd share a few of these, maybe one or two per issue until I run out. I picked this one because I didn't write it down in my journal (I've gotten a bit lazy about that lately), and I'd like to get it down somewhere before I forget it. The Dream: I find myself standing in front of a glass picture window at dusk, looking into someone's living room. I realize that I am dreaming and become very excited. I decide I want to try a trick I've tried but never succeeded at before in a lucid dream. I'm going to try passing through the glass. I press my fingers against the glass. It feels cold. I begin to float upward toward the overhang on the house. I berate myself mentally. "No, no, don't fly, go through the window!" I concentrate harder. The glass seems to warm under my fingertips. My fingers go through, then my whole body, and I am inside the living room. I look around, thinking that as long as I'm lucid, I should explore. (This is what I normally would do in a lucid dream.) The room is dark, and I can't see very well. I don't really decide not to explore, I just find myself walking out of the living room and into a back bedroom. The lighting here is dim too. I'm standing in front of a large desk/dresser type piece of furniture. I has lots of drawers and hidden compartments. I pick a small box up off of the top of the dresser. Since this is a dream, I decide there will be an acupressure ball (they normally come in pairs, are made of metal or ceramic, and have chimes inside) inside the box. Instead of opening the box, I decide to let my fingers pas through it, just as I had passed through the glass earlier. The fingers of my right hand pass through the (styrofoam) box, and I when I pull my fingers back out again, I am indeed holding a ball. The ball is made of styrofoam, just like the box. "Oh well, I was close," I think, then wake up. Another Note from Chris: There are several more lucid dreams I've had. In over half of them, lucidity has been triggered by the sight of glass, either in window or mirror form. Any ideas on why glass would act as a trigger for me? I'll try posting some more of my lucid dreams later. --Chris (cbeattie@worf.uwsp.edu) ======A HOUSE DREAM BY BLUEJILL====================================== This is the basic scenario of a dream I have been having frequently lately: I am on a very busy freeway, where there are a lot of interchanges (or at a train station, where it is very busy),and I'm trying to find my way to a certain city (usually, it's San Francisco).Suddenly, I'm there, and I'm in a very nice neighborhood. I'm looking for a particular house, and again, suddenly, I'm there. There are usually one or two people around, apologizing for the fact that this house isn't very nice. But to me, this house is spectacular--it is full of wonderful nooks and crannies to explore; it is an older house. I explore this house in total delight and wonder. Then, I come to a secret door, and the door is locked. But when I try it, the door opens easily for me. I enter, and find myself going down, down, down. I come to a basement, and the basement is stocked full of wonderful things. There are lockers full of food, there are stereos and CD players everywhere. It is like magic land. I have the sense that either my brother, or my husband's late grandfather, have prepared this basement just for me. I enjoy wandering for a while, and then come to another entry way. I go through the entry, and come to a huge indoor swimming pool. I enter the pool, and then get swept away to a huge ocean. The whole dream has a wondrous, joyful feeling to it. Note from BlueJill: I am a middle-aged female. I have never met my husband's grandfather, but both he and my brother are(were) medical doctors, and do (did) very well financially. There is a feeling in the dreams that this figure has an important gift for me. Also, I was a competitive swimmer for years, so swimming pools and swimming in water appear very frequently in my dreams. [Note from SpacePsyc: I have my ideas about this dream, and since I'm married to the dreamer--a somewhat unfair advantage--she would like some feedback from any of you before I shoot my mouth off.] ======COMMENTS BY MARILYN ON HOUSE DREAM BY BLUEJILL================= This dream could have been one of my own. I doubt that they [the husband's grandfather and brother] are literally the sources of your dream and its gifts; that they were capable of giving from abundance and were healers may be more important.Immerse yourself in this dream often! I think it's amost comforting, rewarding, self-restoring dream. ======COMMENTS ON BLUEJILL'S HOUSE DREAM BY JAY====================== Houses often represent your interior self. So this dream seems to be about your discovering and exploring and enjoying your own inner resources. If so, why do you think you link your inner resources with your brother, your grandfather in law, and/or medical doctors? ======ROOM 448B (dreamed 1994 September 10)BY JIM==================== I was at this medieval-looking place. I found out that a class, probably on erotica or something of that sort, was to be held in classroom 448B. I went outside to go to it, and found that it was in a very tall building, that looked like a castle tower or something. I went to the area of the classroom, and I could not find the classroom. Pretty soon, others arrived, and none of us could find it at first. However, I did see something that said 448, so we walked down a corridor or courtyard and find a room called B. There was another class in there. We figured we would wait for the instructor to turn up. In the meantime we waited in buildings in the area. I was at a place where I wanted to walk down hill to get to somewhere, and a woman,CP, was nearby. I told her I would go down the hard way. I went down a steep embankment. I wound up flying partially the way down. This made me very insecure, and I wondered if I would make it. But I seemed to have made it. At another time I walked by a fenced off area, and found a dark, fiery monster-filled area that could have been the abode of the devil himself. It was about half the size of a football field, and the fence was about the height of my head. I saw fires and dragons in there. I decided I did not want to go in there, and I stayed outside and watched in until I had to go to classes. ======THE DRY LAGOON AND THE MAN WITH A GUN BY JIM=================== I went to a place that seemed remote to me, to see some relatives; it seemed the place was in California. When I got there, I went out to see what else was there. All of my relatives and I went on a trip to a building. I was in this building with many artifacts.Eventually I wound up in a chemistry lab with a group of scientists, both male and female. We all went downstairs. There was a party going on in the first floor or basement of this building. The atmosphere was dark, and it looked like a bar, with dark wood decor. It was somewhat larger than After Dark. It also had a cafeteria, which started in the left portion of the building and was somewhat bright, turns to the front and then turns left to an ice cream area and a dark bar-like area with a lot of people, especially men there. I was in a party of people where two of the women got promotions to Captain, and I remembered as I went by the ice cream bar that we remarked that the two women made the grade. Then we went (the scientist group) went to a corridor to find things. We went down further in the basement to what looked like a river in a jungle. However, it was all dark, and there was no sky, so it was more likely a cave that had access to the bar. The river was lighted, and it seemed clear and sparking light bluish green, and inviting. There was a lagoon at a bend of the river. We all took off our clothes and hopped in. The water felt good on my body, but it also seemed strange. It seemed to have a gelatinous crust on the top, that dented like a black-hole demonstration when you jumped in it. The water did not seem all that wet, although it did seem of reasonable consistency. It seemed almost as if it were made of chemicals. One of the men in my party got out and walked away. He was medium height and stockily built with a beard, and he looked like a big Western guy, although I don't know how a person can seem Western if he were naked. He may have had a hat on. I told him to hop in instead; it's rather unusual. He went back to the cafeteria and bar instead. Then I was back in the cafeteria. I finished getting food in line at the cafeteria, went by the cashier without paying since I wanted ice cream too, and got some ice cream, with the intention of going back and paying. I looked at the crowd of people down in the bar area, and it seemed there was a mild chatter or ruckus going on. Then a tall guy came out; he was about six foot eight or so and thin and wearing a black suit. He held a pistol in his hand. I finished getting my ice cream and then I walked back to the cashier. I saw the guy come towards me. When I saw this, I dropped everything and walked away from the bar area and outside the building. I quickly turned right and looked back to find him walking towards me. I then walked quickly outside the building from the back to the front. Then I turned right again at the front. I looked back and saw him back there still coming after me with the gun in his hand. I then went to the entrance and went in the building again. I sat down in a dark lounge in the front part of the building, like a lobby, with sofas and stuffed chairs. There were some people around and I wanted to figure out what to do and thought of asking people around what to do about this man entering the building. =====COMMENTARY ON "ON THE SHORE" AND "AT THE MOUNTAIN" BY JIM======= These are an interesting pair of dreams. They suggest you are in a battle between declaring your will and independence and going along with other's wishes. It's a classic battle. You declare independence and find no one with you; you are all alone on top of a mountain. You seek safety and comfort in others and lose your independence. It's the battle of assertiveness versus tenderness. I feel the same way to various people in my life right now. Evidently you are breaking up a relationship with BCP. You first find the cooperative spirit in the appearance of the Aphrodite ghost. She is the Goddess of Death as well as Love. That is mythologically incorrect,so this represents your own personal archetype or myth. The same spirit that leads you to others leads you to assert yourself in the face of others. Sink or swim ... BCP is saying stay with him, else you have to face the cruel world. "That's all I need". That has two meanings, the straightforward one and the sarcastic one which is its opposite. BCP is either praising you for making things clear to him or condemning you for denying him your love. In the Mountain dream, you decide to swim, and nearly drown. It's a cruel world out there. Then you seek something comfortable, the ship of dead people. But you crossed the point of no return. The shell of your old protective lifestyle may be there, but the substance is gone. You use what's left of it to find a life for yourself. You throw the anchor on the beach, and it bleeds orange red. This color symbolizes life. In your case, it's a new life. You climb ashore and climb your mountain. Then you make it shine (plug in the Moon) and establish yourself within your own protective shell (the force field). You now have a mountain and a world of your own. But the past will haunt you. It will tease you to go back to where you were, and you suffer grief that it is gone. That comes out in your hearing BCP drowning in the sea. What is the key to your heart now? You are not willing to open it. Is this dream saying that you need to open yourself more and come off that high tower of independence? BCP may represent in Jungian terms your animus. The BCP in your dream may represent your relationships with men in general, not just BCP. It represents your relationship to your inner masculine. You have started your journey up your own mountain. Let me know how it turns out. - Jim _____________________________________________________________________ Electric Dreams is an independent email publication not affiliated with any other organization. ----------------------- Headers ------------------------ From cbeatty@worf.uwsp.edu Sun Sep 25 14:05:10 1994 Received: from worf.uwsp.edu by mail03.mail.aol.com with SMTP (1.38.193.5/16.2) id AA03665; Sun, 25 Sep 1994 14:05:10 -0400 Return-Path: Received: from worf.uwsp.edu (worf.uwsp.edu [143.236.1.12]) by worf.uwsp.edu (8.6.5/8.6.5) with SMTP id NAA14060; Sun, 25 Sep 1994 13:01:02 -0500 Date: Sun, 25 Sep 1994 13:01:02 -0500 (CDT) From: Christine Beatty Message-Id: Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII Apparently-To: , , , , , , , , , , , Subject: Electric Dreams Volume 1 Issue 15 AOL-Member: rcwilk
